Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation Receives New Five-Star Rating From CMS

LARGO, Fla. (Dec. 1, 2014) – Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation, managed by The Goodman Group, has received five stars – the highest overall rating – from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which sets and enforces federal requirements and standards for nursing homes certified to receive Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation has moved up in the CMS rating system from a 4-Star to a 5-Star based on their most recent survey. This new rating reflects that the community has achieved a high standard for quality measures in staffing levels of nurses to patients, and overall exemplary operations of the care center.

“We are proud of the recognition Sabal Palms has received,” said Mark Moyer, executive director, Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation. “This 5-star rating is indicative of the overall improvements Sabal Palms has made in key quality measures, as well as the high level of commitment our associates have to providing the best possible care to the residents and patients of this community.”

Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation is highly rated in the following areas as designated by CMS:

  • Overall Quality – 5-Star
  • Health Inspection – 4-Star
  • Staffing – 4-Star
  • Quality Measures – 5-Star

Since the fourth quarter of 2013, Sabal Palms has scored consistently better than the national average in all 18 quality measures. The measures detail the status of each individual Medicare or Medicaid resident within 19 quality indicators. The primary goal of the CMS rating system is to provide residents and their families with an easy way to understand assessment of nursing home quality, making meaningful distinctions between high and low performing nursing homes. Health inspections are conducted every 12 to 15 months by state surveyors who investigate overall compliance with state regulations, medication management, assessment of resident needs, nursing home administration, environment, kitchen/food services, and resident rights and quality of life.

Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation offers 244-beds of skilled care, including 34 designated for pediatric care and 25 for young adults. The on-site rehabilitation center offers physical, occupational, speech, restorative and outpatient therapies seven days-a-week in the heart of Pinellas County.
